Palin's husband, Todd Palin,[79] works for the energy corporation BP at an oil field on Alaska's North Slope[80] and works as a fisherman in his hometown in the summers. Todd is a champion snowmobiler, winning the 2,000-mile (3,200 km) "Iron Dog" race four times.[6] Todd is one-eighth Yup'ik.[81] The two eloped shortly after Palin graduated from college; when they learned they needed witnesses for the civil ceremony, they recruited two residents from the old-age home down the street.[6] The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 40 miles (64 km) north of Anchorage.
On September 11, 2007, the Palins' then eighteen-year-old son Track, eldest of five, joined the Army.[82] He now serves in an infantry brigade. She also has three daughters: Bristol, Willow and Piper.[15]
On April 18, 2008, while in office as governor, Palin gave birth to her second son and fifth child, Trig Paxson Van Palin, who, as prenatal genetic testing had shown, has Down syndrome.[83] She returned to the office three days after giving birth.[21] Her decision to have the baby was applauded by the pro-life community.[84][85]
Details of Palin's personal life have contributed to her political image. She hunts, eats moose hamburger, ice fish, rides snowmobiles, has run a marathon, and owns a float plane.[23][86] Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association
I'm already editing this! My cousin Jamie sent me this about her and check out Jane's blog on the left hand side.
Washington, D.C. -- Wendy Wright, president of Concerned> Women for America (CWA), released the following statement in response to Senator John McCain's choice of Alaska, Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate: "Governor Palin will change the dynamics of the entire presidential race. Her admirable record of confronting corruption and living her pro-life convictions shows she is a doer, not just a talker. Sarah Palin will make history as a vice presidential candidate - and not simply because> she's a woman, but because she's a woman of substance and character." Janice Shaw Crouse, director and senior fellow of CWA's Beverly LaHaye Institute, said, "It is particularly significant that a conservative woman was nominated for the nation's second highest office. For years the feminist movement has acknowledged for leadership only those women who embrace a radical agenda. How refreshing that now we have a woman who reflects the values of mainstream American women. Sarah Palin is pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-family. She is a woman who is balancing the personal and professional in admirable ways. She is an outstanding woman who will be an excellent role model for the nation's young people. Sarah Palin is chief among equals with American professional women; she brings the kind of balance that characterizes the high-achieving women of today. She will bring to the forefront of our cultural conversations an intelligent, realistic, well-grounded woman's perspective Crouse concluded: "Take that feminists -- here is a woman of accomplishment who brings a fresh face to traditional values and models the type of woman most girls want to become." Concerned Women for America is the nation's largestpublic policy women's organization.
